Things You Should Know Before You Buy LED Light Bulbs

Even today most of us still prefer to use incandescent, fluorescent or halogen lighting throughout our homes. Yet the installation of LED light bulbs can prove more beneficial to us homeowners in many ways. As well as using a lot less power in comparison to other forms of lighting they also provide much better lighting.

However if you haven't considered investing in such lighting before we offer some information you may find useful.

LED light bulbs provide light by passing electrons through a semiconductor. Inside each of these bulbs is a digital chip that is able to convert small amounts of energy into light. The light emitted by such bulbs is very warm and inviting, yet if you were to actually come in to contact with them they would feel cool to the touch.

As already mentioned these forms of bulbs use far less energy compared to the conventional light bulbs you already have in your home. As a result of this they have a much longer life span. On average such light bulbs have a life span of around 10 years, whereas incandescent ones are only expected to last a year at the most.

When it comes to purchasing LED light bulbs for your home you will find that there are many different kinds available. However there are certain things you need to keep in mind when shopping for such items to ensure that you buy the right ones for your particular needs.

The things that you need to keep in mind when buying such light bulbs are as follows.

1. Lumens - Normally you would purchase your bulbs based on their wattage. However you should be now basing your purchase on the number of lumens as this tells you the exact amount of light they are able to emit. Ideally look for ones that are able that come with a lumen level of between 800 and 1,600.

2. Color - This is another very important factor you need to keep in mind when choosing LED bulbs for your home. You need to look at the bulbs CRI (color rendering index), as this will tell you how good the light source is.

Bulbs that come with a CRI of 100 are ones that create light that is close to that produced by the sun. However for indoors you should opt for LED light bulbs with a CRI of 80.

But don't just look at the bulbs CRI also take a look at its CCT (Correlated Color Temperature), which is measured in Kelvins. The best bulbs to select for indoors are ones that have a CCT of between 4,000 and 5,000K as these ones produce light that is very clear and white.

3. Type Of Lamp - As already mentioned above there are numerous types of LED light bulbs now available. For ceilings and lamps choose the A-19 variety, whereas for outdoor you should choose to invest in PAR38 LED light bulbs. However if you have any form of recessed lighting in your home then opt for PAR30 or PAR20 bulbs.
