Things You Should Know Before You Buy LED Light Bulbs

Even today most of us still prefer to use incandescent, fluorescent or halogen lighting throughout our homes. Yet the installation of LED light bulbs can prove more beneficial to us homeowners in many ways. As well as using a lot less power in comparison to other forms of lighting they also provide much better lighting.

However if you haven't considered investing in such lighting before we offer some information you may find useful.

LED light bulbs provide light by passing electrons through a semiconductor. Inside each of these bulbs is a digital chip that is able to convert small amounts of energy into light. The light emitted by such bulbs is very warm and inviting, yet if you were to actually come in to contact with them they would feel cool to the touch.

As already mentioned these forms of bulbs use far less energy compared to the conventional light bulbs you already have in your home. As a result of this they have a much longer life span. On average such light bulbs have a life span of around 10 years, whereas incandescent ones are only expected to last a year at the most.

When it comes to purchasing LED light bulbs for your home you will find that there are many different kinds available. However there are certain things you need to keep in mind when shopping for such items to ensure that you buy the right ones for your particular needs.

The things that you need to keep in mind when buying such light bulbs are as follows.

1. Lumens - Normally you would purchase your bulbs based on their wattage. However you should be now basing your purchase on the number of lumens as this tells you the exact amount of light they are able to emit. Ideally look for ones that are able that come with a lumen level of between 800 and 1,600.

2. Color - This is another very important factor you need to keep in mind when choosing LED bulbs for your home. You need to look at the bulbs CRI (color rendering index), as this will tell you how good the light source is.

Bulbs that come with a CRI of 100 are ones that create light that is close to that produced by the sun. However for indoors you should opt for LED light bulbs with a CRI of 80.

But don't just look at the bulbs CRI also take a look at its CCT (Correlated Color Temperature), which is measured in Kelvins. The best bulbs to select for indoors are ones that have a CCT of between 4,000 and 5,000K as these ones produce light that is very clear and white.

3. Type Of Lamp - As already mentioned above there are numerous types of LED light bulbs now available. For ceilings and lamps choose the A-19 variety, whereas for outdoor you should choose to invest in PAR38 LED light bulbs. However if you have any form of recessed lighting in your home then opt for PAR30 or PAR20 bulbs.

Why Replace A Halogen Downlight Bulb With An LED Downlight Bulb

Up until a couple of years ago if you were to visit your local hardware, DIY or lighting store the choice of LED bulbs on offer was very minimal. However this situation has now changed and these stores now offer a good selection of LED downlight bulb options to you. But you don't need to just rely on stores locally to provide you with what you need you can also get them online.

So if you are looking to replace your current halogen down lights with LED ones then now would be a good time to do so. Even though you may still be put off by the cost of purchasing such lighting don't be. There are numerous reasons why you should really consider replacing any halogen downlight bulb with an LED downlight bulb.

In this article we explain why you should seriously consider replacing such lighting now rather than in the future.

Reason 1 - The LED Downlight Bulb Lasts Longer

On average when used these types of bulbs have been designed to run for around 25,000 hours before they need replacing. However if you continue to use halogen bulbs in your down lights these normally need to be replaced after they have been running for 1,000 hours. So you are saving yourself money by replacing halogen bulbs with the LED variety as you only need to buy 1 LED downlight bulb, compared to having to buy 25 halogen ones.

Reason 2 - Do Not Use As Much Power

The amount of power used by an LED downlight bulb is considerably less than that used by a halogen bulb. In fact most of the LED bulbs available today for use around the home are ones that are designed to use only a 10th of the power that a halogen bulb needs. As a result of this of course the amount you spend on your electricity bills each year will be reduced. In fact you could end up reducing your annual electricity bill by more than $200 a year.

Reason 3 - Don't Produce As Much Heat

As you already know an LED downlight bulb uses less power, which in turn results in it emitting far less heat compared to that emitted by a halogen bulb. What this in turn means that there is less chance that this type of bulb will start to overheat and cause damage to your home.

Also as these lights don't actually produce as much heat in comparison to other forms of light bulbs you will find that the chances of them exploding is far less. This is not the same when it comes to having halogen bulbs installed in down lights in your home.

Hopefully the reasons we have provided above why you should seriously be considering getting an LED downlight bulb to replace a halogen one. Yes the initial cost of actually replacing the bulbs is quite high, but certainly over the coming months and years you will see how cost effective such lighting can be.

Factors That Are Helping To Increase Sales Of Industrial LED Lighting Today

Even though the cost of purchasing industrial LED lighting is still quite high, the number of companies choosing to replace their current lighting systems with this type has substantially increased in recent years. The main reason for business opting to do this is of course that over the coming years they will begin to see some dramatic changes in how much they spend on electricity.

Also as demand for such lighting increases so the LED light manufacturers will start to produce even more, which in turn means that the cost of producing them will be reduced. Furthermore these companies will start to develop new technology that in turn helps to reduce how long it takes for each light to be produced.

However it isn't just how much money a business can save on their annual electricity bills that is helping to increase demand for all kinds of industrial LED lighting. There are a number of other factors that are increasing the sales of such lighting as well. Below we take a look at just what some of these other factors are.

Factor 1 - Today many forms of these lights now have chips installed that has resulted in the manufacturers of them to come up with software that enables people to have more control over not only how much light they emit, but also what color the light emitted is. Along with using a remote control some forms of this lighting can now be controlled via a smartphone or even via a tablet such as the iPad.

Factor 2 - For businesses today when they decide to get such lighting installed they find that they are entitled to certain rebates. In some cases the rebates they receive can be as much as 50% of what they were originally paying for their electricity. The benefit of course to them and their customers is that the money they have saved can be used to improve other aspects of their business.

Factor 3 - The light that is emitted by any industrial LED lighting is of a much better quality. Not only does this form of lighting tend to be a light whiter, but also a lot more natural. So as a result the strain being placed on staff as they work is much less. Over time a business often sees that by installing such lighting production levels within it improve.

Factor 4 - Although the price of such lighting may seem high in comparison to other forms of lighting to then install them isn't. The way in which industrial LED lighting has been designed today is such that it is possible to directly replace the current lights with this new form of lights without using any special fittings. However to ensure that the lights have been fitted correctly employing the services of an experienced lighting engineer is a must. As well as making sure that the lights are connected to the power supply correct, they can make sure that the lights are positioned in the right locations within the room.

What Kind Of LED High Bay Lighting Can We Use Today

The main reason why LED high bay lighting is proving so popular with many businesses can be placed down to one fact. The fact that this type of lighting is much more energy efficient compared to the other forms of lighting already in use. On average of the life term of this form of lighting a saving of between 50 and 90% can be made on the companies annual electricity bills.

Today when it comes to installing any kind of LED high bay lighting a company will have a number of different types to choose from. The kinds of lighting now available fall into three distinct categories and below we take a look at what these are.

Category 1 - Basic LED Lighting

Although this form of lighting incorporates the energy efficient components of LEDs they otherwise function in the same ways as HID and HIF based lighting fixtures do. There may be the opportunity to be able to reduce how much light each one emits be aware in order to do so a separate switch to do this will need to be purchased.

Without such a switch once this particular form of lighting has been installed then how much light such emits will remain at the same level at all times. The only thing you will be able to do is turn the lights on and off.

Category 2 - Basic LED Lighting With Bolt On Sensors

With this form of LED high bay lighting an additional component will be included with the lights after they have been manufactured. This form of lighting will not only allow you to decide how much light they produce but also when that light is emitted. You can of course go down the dimmer switch route if you wish.

However in a business premises opting for basic LED lighting with bolt on sensors that help to recognise movement would be a much better option. As soon as you come close to a motion sensor the lights will automatically turn on and will then turn off automatically after a specific period of time if they detect no further movement within the area.

As a result of this then the cost of providing lighting to your business premises can be reduced even more. No longer do you need to have to remember to turn out lights, as the sensors will do this for you automatically.

Category 3 - Intelligent LED Lighting

This particular form of LED high bay lighting comes with the sensors incorporated within them. They include a very small computer within them that helps to manage them more effectively. As a result of this you have a great deal more control over the lights and this increases the way in which such lighting can be used within any kind of building.

What form of LED high bay lighting you choose to use will depend on a number of different factors? One of the most important of these being the size of the room where to be installed and of course the height of the ceilings.

Factors That Are Leading To Increased Sales Of High Power LED Industrial Light Systems

In 2011 the number of sales of high power LED industrial light systems grew substantially. Yet in 2012 the sales of such items seemed to drop off because of the fact that they were still too expensive to buy. However things may now be on the rise again once more and there are a number of factors that may well have an influence as to why sales have begun to increase once again.

The factors which are helping to increase sales once again of high power LED industrial light systems are as shown below.

Factor 1 - Many of the companies that are able to manufacture components that go into LED lights have now begun to increase their product lines. These companies are now offering a much wide range of multi chip packages for the companies that actually make LED lights.

As these companies are able to offer such different size chip arrays to the LED light manufacturers they are helping to reduce the demand for systems to help manage the thermal aspect of the lights. Also they are helping to simplify the design of the lights in regards to the way in which light emitted from them can be directed.

Factor 2 - The companies that are actually manufacturing any form of LED lighting is also finding ways that enables to simplify the design of them. Some of the lights now being introduced no longer come with an integrated driver in them, which helps to bring down the cost of manufacturing such. In turn this then means that the price we pay for these types of lights has also been reduced.

Factor 3 - There are certain times when a more diffused form of high power LED industrial light system is needed. In order to help with this situation many of the manufacturers are now offering medium powered LED's rather than high-powered ones. Certainly in the next few years' sales of this form of light should increase quite substantially.

However the use of the conventional high power LED industrial light will remain as they are especially effective when used in street lighting, recessed lights or in replacement PAR lamps or flashlights.

Factor 4 - Nowadays companies such as Intematix and Philips have started to use remote phosphor technology. As a result of this they have been able to convert blue LED's so that they produce a much whiter light more effectively. This type of light is especially effective in situations where light is needed to be provided in a variety of different directions at the same time.

Factor 5 - As more and more Governments offer schemes providing businesses with rebates for installing any kind of high power LED industrial light system it is helping to make them more cost effective. Although these businesses don't see a return on their investment initially, over the coming months and years they will. In fact in a couple of years they could see their annual electricity bill being reduced by as much as 60%.

3 Factors To Consider Before You Go And Buy An LED Industrial Light

Today the use of various forms of LED industrial light has become very commonplace in many business premises. However it is important that if you are considering installing such lighting into your business premises you don't go with the first one you come across.

When it comes to choosing the right kind of LED industrial light system for your business premises there are certain factors that you need to consider first. The three factors that we look at in this article are the ones that will help you to determine if you are buying good quality LED industrial lights or not.

Factor 1 - Heat Dissipation

This is the number 1 enemy of LED lights. If these lights are unable to dissipate the heat that they produce effectively then this will affect how well essential components work within them. In fact if the heat cannot be dissipated then very quickly the lights will begin to fail and of course will then need to be replaced much more frequently than is normally the case.

In tests carried out it was found that many of the LED lights tested came with a very inferior thermal conductivity system. Often this was because the manufacturers of such products had decided to use inferior materials. Instead of using aluminum alloy or aluminum they would use cheaper metals to make the bases of theirs.

Factor 2 - Chip Set

It is this component within the LED industrial light that is designed to convert the electricity coming into them into light. However when buying this form of lighting for your business premises make sure that you choose lights made using chips from reputable companies such as Cree, Bridgelux, Epistar or Luxeon. All of these companies have dedicated time, money and effort into creating the best and most reliable chip sets possible.

As a result of this the chips then cost more for the light manufacturers to purchase, which in turn means that their industrial lights with LED components are more expensive to buy. As a result of this the price you will have to pay for these lights is much greater. But then again you will find that they are actually more reliable so the chances of you having to replace them frequently is vastly reduced.

Factor 3 - Power Drive

It is this component that actually helps to regulate how much power is delivered to an LED industrial light. However it is different in one way from the drivers you find in other forms of lighting in that it supplies the lights with a constant stream of power even though the properties within the light change because of fluctuations in the temperature.

What you should be looking for is an LED industrial light fitted with a drive that enables the lights operating temperature to remain low and stable no matter how long they may be left on for. If you do this then you are reducing the chances of the lights needing to be replaced more frequently, because the wear and tear on them is greatly reduced.
