The Difference Between LED Lights And Regular Light Bulbs

If you are thinking of how to replace your lighting system with new residential LED ceiling lights, then you are probably reviewing all of the information about this technology and what such a change needs. But, if you are not knowledgeable about the differences between the two, you may be hesitant to pay the upfront costs that come with installing residential LED ceiling lights.

You will want to make sure you know what these lights are and how they work. This type of light gets its name from the fact that it is based off a light emitting diode. In fact, these little plastic pieces are not bulbs at all but rather are very small semiconductors that have been cordoned off and separated by a plastic dome. This dome assists to protect the light that is being emitted as well as focuses it on a specific area.

On the other hand, a regular light bulb uses a filament. This filament does not produce any reaction until power is directly applied. When this happens, the filament begins to glow red hot, which in turn creates light as a byproduct. This is known as a hot process, and it takes a lot of energy.

LED ceiling light bulbs are different because they rely on a cold process to produce light. This means that the light you are seeing is not a product of immense heat. Instead, electrons are stimulated in the semiconductor when electricity is applied, and the light is a side effect of this stimulation that produces photons, which then appear in the visible light spectrum.

The reason that traditional light bulbs need so much energy is that the filament must remain heated at all times to produce the light. When these filaments get too hot for too long, they burn out and have to be replaced. This is less likely to happen because of the lack of heat. Because of these factors, they use a lot less energy and last longer, making them a lot more efficient.

Since most residential LED ceiling lights do not have the same wattage as traditional lights, you will have to use more bulbs for the same effect. However, even though you are using two or three times the number of traditional ones, you are using much less energy overall. That is definitely something to consider in terms of cost and efficiency. You may want to ask your local government office about energy programs that offer rebates when you upgrade your electrical system to this new technology.
