LED Downlight - 3 Tips To Help On Installation

The first thing you will learn about an LED downlight is that it is much more energy efficient than more conventional types such as fluorescent. This type of lighting technology has in fact been around for well over 80 years as it as developed back in the 1920's in Russia. Originally used to provide a light source for computer screens and monitors it is now being used as an indoor and outdoor lighting source as well.

When it comes to the installation of LED downlight in the home or office the same principles, which govern other forms of lighting apply to this one. In this article we offer you 3 tips that you may find useful when it comes to installing such lighting in your home.

Tip 1 - Determine Where The Lights Should Be Placed

When it comes to the installation of any kind of LED downlight bulb you need to know exactly where it is going to be situated. Normally such lighting is used to help provide some mood lighting or to help accentuate a certain item in a room. So you need to spend time planning out the exact location of the downlight so you can then get access to the wiring that will then allow it to be connected to the system.

Tip 2 - Don't Forget To Shut Off The Mains Power

As with any lighting or electrical project in the home then the mains power supply should be turned off and kept off until the work has been completed. If you fail to turn off the mains power not only are you risking your only life but you could actually cause damage to your home. By turning the power off and keeping it turned off not only will you be able to complete the project safely but also will ensure that no power surges or other hazards occur that could affect the electricity supply to your home.

Shutting off the mains power is very simple. You simpleness to find the main circuit breakers, these are typically located in a main location in the home or in the basement if you have one. In my home they are to be found at the top of the stairs near the front door. Once you have located these you simply turn the circuit off. Once you have completed the wiring of your new LED downlights you can go back to the circuit box and turn the power back on.

Tip 3 - Match Wires Accordingly

It is important to make sure that the wires located in your LED light match to the corresponding wires in your homes electrical system. You need to attach both the negative and positive wires using electrical caps to prevent any moisture or liquid from getting into the electrical system and causing it to short. Generally you should be looking to match the same colour wires to each other, that is, red to red or black to black. As for the neutral or green wire that is part of your homes electrical system or the LED downlight itself this simply needs to be capped.
