LED Light Tubes : What Are The Advantages?

LED light tubes are the latest trend in the lighting industry, and they come equipped with great features. These lights are better substitutes to fluorescent lights; with products like Flexible LED as well as LED T5 and LED T8 tubes. LED light tubes can also be used both in a working environment and at home. They are particularly better than other traditional lighting in terms of energy consumption, durability, brightness and maintenance costs.

LED lights are safer to use. There is no toxic material (like mercury) in LED lights, unlike fluorescent. Mercury dust contained in fluorescent tubes pose serious health threat to anybody exposed to it, especially those who work with them; like electricians. A broken fluorescent tube in a room releases mercury into the air, and the mercury could last for up to four hours in the air. Mercury is capable of causing asthma and some other respiratory problems. But when LED are used, these health concerns are removed. LED light bulbs are also easier to install compared to fluorescent bulbs. You do not need to use ballast, just fix the LED bulbs into sizes T5 and T8 sockets used for fluorescent tubes.

As energy-efficient as fluorescent light bulbs were considered to be in the past, LED light bulbs have surpassed them when it comes to energy consumption efficiency. The fact that LED consume less energy makes them great lighting options for use in corporate organizations and at homes as this would help reduce the electricity bill payable for putting lights on by up to half. They are also useful in stemming the rising trend of global warming. LED lights use only about 30 percent of energy that fluorescent bulbs use to produce a particular level of brightness. They also save you money because they last much longer than fluorescent tubes; this is made possible by the more reliable solid state lighting that LED tube lights are.

The flickering that is sometimes experienced when a fluorescent light bulb is switched on is a big disadvantage for fluorescents. This flickering has been proven to be capable of causing headaches to those in its vicinity. The micro-pulse wavelength being emitted by the flickering fluorescent bulb is said to be responsible for such headaches. On the other hand, LED do not flicker when switched on, thereby nullifying all concerns about experiencing headaches and disorientation.

LED light tubes produce uniform light output, unlike fluorescent bulbs that sometimes dim out as they develop hot spots capable of causing eye strain. The heat generated by fluorescent tube is responsible for these hot spots which could make the tube fuse quickly.

Although some people consider LED to be rather too expensive when acquiring them, but if you look at it in the long run, you'd discover them to be the cheaper lighting options.

What Are The Considerations For Purchasing LED Light Bulbs?

Because of their many advantages over traditional incandescent and fluorescent light bulbs, LED lights are poised to transform all forms of lighting. Selecting and purchasing LED lights requires buyers to learn new terminology.
As most people probably know by now, LED stands for light-emitting diode. LEDs are actually semiconductors (just like computer chips) that produce light more efficiently than traditional light sources. When electricity is passed through them, they emit energy in the form of light. These semiconductors are doped or injected with chemicals that determine their light color.

So, what should you know when purchasing LED lights bulbs? The following list provides some basic guidelines:

1. While the initial cost per bulb is still high, the total lifetime cost of an LED light bulb is actually lower than that of equivalent incandescent and CFL bulbs. Taking into consideration energy costs as well as time and resources required to replace incandescent and CFL bulbs, an LED bulb that lasts 80,000 hours has a much lower lifetime cost.

2. LEDs are diverse, and - as unlucky purchasers are all too likely to find out the hard way - many types are useless for general lighting applications. The finest LED chips emit light with a Color Rendering Index (CRI) of 85%. The CRI, by the way, is a quantitative measure of the ability of a light source to reproduce the colors of various objects faithfully in comparison with an ideal or natural light source.

3. Contrary to what you may read some places, LEDs do generate heat, and this heat is actually the biggest problem that manufacturers face developing LED lighting applications. Manufacturers can now produce individual LED chips that are as bright as a 100-watt incandescent bulb, but these LEDs are practically useless for general lighting because installing them in a fixture creates ventilation problems that have not yet been solved. LEDs installed in fixtures and bulbs must be ventilated properly, and the better the chip, the more difficult it is to properly cool.

4. While LED light bulbs do last much longer than conventional bulbs, look closely at manufacturer claims for bulb life. The life-span of an LED light bulb should be its "half-life." LED light bulbs do not burn out; rather, they gradually fade out. When a vendor says an LED replacement bulbs will last 80,000 hours, they mean that at that point, the chips will have reached 50% efficiency, and the bulb ought to be replaced. So, the bulb might last 100,000 hours or more, but its efficiency will have degraded greatly by that point. Using this 100,000-hour life as a selling point is therefore misleading. While LEDs don't last forever, they will last 50-75 times longer than a comparable incandescent and 6-8 times longer than a CFL.

5. Searching the web, you will quickly find that the LED light bulb market is inundated with product. Many of these bulbs are relatively inexpensive (less than $20); however, you may find that many of these LED bulbs consist of questionable materials and dubious craftsmanship. Good LED light bulbs cost more than these cheap ones because they use high-quality chips with prices firmly set by reputable manufacturers like Cree. This means that though these LED light bulbs are more expensive, they are far superior.

6. When comparing LED light bulbs, you need to understand lumens. The lumen is a standard unit you can use to compare LED light bulbs to standard bulbs, such as incandescents and halogens. Roughly, a lumen is a measure of brightness. Lumen quantity is important, but maybe more important is lumen quality, i.e., luminous efficacy (lumen/Watt). Today's quality LEDs have a luminous efficacy between 60-70 lumens/watt.

The Advantages Of LED Light Bulbs

LED light bulbs or Light Emitting Diode Lamps actually use light emitting diodes as a prime source of light. The amount of light emitted by Light Emitting Diode is very less as compared to incandescent and compact fluorescent lamps; hence Lamp manufacturers put several Light Emitting Diodes together to form a LED lamp. Due to the rapid development in the diode technology, lamps are improving at a fast pace hence replacing many other types of lamps.

Most of the LED Manufacturers in market offer lamps with the guarantee of long service life and high energy efficiency. They offer Lamps for two types of purposes i.e.

- General lighting

- Special-purpose lighting

LED manufacturers believe that led Lights have many competitive advantages over other types of lights. Some of them are listed below:

1. Long life expectancy

2. Low energy consumption

3. No glass tubes involved, hence no danger of breaking up.

4. Resistant to vibration and impact.

5. Wide range of colored lights can be formed.

6. High Luminance

As LED lamps are damaged if exposed to high temperatures, hence Lamp Manufacturers make sure that heat management elements are added into the into the Lamp Lights. These heat management elements are generally heat sinks and cooling fans.

LED lights provide a wide beam spread of about 120 degrees and a huge level of brightness that will really highlight the clarity and brilliance of the jewelry you have on display. The light output for this solution will be high, clear and incredibly even. There isn't another lighting solution on the market that provides the consistency the LED lights provide, and having that consistency is important in retail as you need to know that you won't be dealing with flickering or unintentional dimming when a high profile client walks through the door.

These lighting solutions are also incredibly environmentally friendly. They utilize a low level of power consumption despite their high output and high intensity light. Because they are so energy efficient LED tube lighting also primarily utilize their electricity for light production and won't produce uncomfortable heat.

What You Need To Know About LED Lamps?

A LED lamp or a Light Emitting Diode lamp use light emitting diodes to produce light. LED lamps are one of the most convenient alternatives for traditional bulbs. The amount of light emitted by a single light emitting diode is very small as compared to compact fluorescent lamps and incandescent lamps. So, multiple diodes are used for producing more light. All LED lamp operates on the basis of solid state lighting technology. The solid state technology involves the production of light from a solid object and not from vacuum or gas.

Different types of light emitting diodes used in LED lamps are organic LEDs, polymer LEDs and conventional semiconductor light emitting diodes. With the improvement in the diode technology, high power LEDs, with higher lumen output have become very popular. High power commercial light emitting diode lamps can emit 7,500 lumens with 100 watts electrical power. Light emitting diodes operate on direct current or DC electrical power.

They can also operate on standard AC electrical power with the help of external or internal rectifier circuits. Light emitting diodes usually get damaged by functioning at high temperatures. So, the LED lamps feature heat management elements, such as cooling fins and heat sinks. These heat management elements provide long service life to the LED light bulbs.

LED light bulbs have a variety of applications. Light emitting diode lamps are used for both special purpose and general lighting. These lamps are widely used in commercial buildings, homes, small rooms, hallways, solar-powered gardens, gardening and agriculture industry. Also, they are used as reading lamps, traffic signal lights, bicycle lights, walkway lights and flashlights. These lamps are also used as hanging decorative lights. You can use these lights to decorate your home during festivals and special occasions. For instance, you can use string of LED lights for decorating your Christmas tree.

LED light bulbs are available in a variety of shapes, sizes and colors. LED light bulbs has become extremely popular due to their high energy efficiency, high stability, short response time, environment friendliness and cost effectiveness. LED lamps have several benefits over the conventional incandescent lamps:

Energy Efficiency: According to several reports LED lights consume 50 to 80% less energy as compared to traditional light bulbs. These LED lamps produce more light with lesser electricity. Further, the efficiency of these lights is not affected by their shape or size.

Long Life Time: These lamps have a long life time. These lamps last from 20,000 to 100, 00 hours under proper voltage and current. Further, these lamps are very durable, rust proof and mechanically robust.

Further, these lights do not use mercury or any other toxic materials like traditional lamps. These eco-friendly lamps are fully recyclable and do not emit any harmful fumes.

Is It Better To Use LED Fluorescent Light Tubes

LED light tubes consume much lesser power for a given level of illumination (light output), typically between 50% and 90% of the power required for ordinary bulbs so a 60W domestic light bulb can be replaced by an Energy Saving LED bulb drawing just 6 Watts. LED technology uses less energy compared to current lighting methods found today.

Did you know that current Energy Saving (Florescent) bulbs can cause migration and allergic skin reactions?

As you maybe aware, most current lighting products become very hot in a short space of time. This can be very dangerous and cause burns when touched. This is because around 80% of the energy used to light up normal bulbs is given off as heat and 20% generates light. Where LED light tubes are used, the energy used converts 80% into light and 20% is given off as heat. This makes it safer to use and cooler to touch. It is Ideal when using around young children, elderly and vulnerable.

With conventional Energy Saving fluorescent bulbs, most start off by emitting a dim light until they have warmed up. This consumes energy and time to reach to the maximum light output. This can be frustrating and unsafe for users. With the characteristics of LED tubes, they do come on instantly when switched on!

Lighting products such as Energy Saving Florescent CFL bulbs contain toxic materials such as lead and mercury. These can be dangerous and harmful to anyone or anything who may be in direct contact with them if leaked. They also require them to disposed safely and can not be thrown away in normal bins. However, LED light tubes do not contain any dangerous materials and are completely safe to use around your home and business.

LED Bulbs however are much more efficient, safer to use, last much longer and better for the planet as they do not require replacing as often, in most cases for 15 years!

If households, businesses and organisations were to change from current lighting methods to LED Lighting, the UK could save Billions of pounds per year on electricity!

A typical home could save hundreds of pounds per year if they were to switch over to LED lighting.

Where as a small or medium business would benefit in thousands of pounds on their lighting and maintenance bills.

LED fluorescent light tubes are much kinder to the environment. By using less electricity, we can reduce the levels of CO2 omissions being pumped into the air from fossil fuel power stations. This will have a positive impact on the environment, reduce green house gases and help meet the 2050 EU directive to lower CO2 emissions by 80%.

3 Tips To Help Buy The Right Kind Of LED Light Bulb

Why is it so many people are choosing to invest money in installation of a LED light bulb when they cost so much. Plus they are choosing to do so even though they feel that some times the light emitted by them isn't the same as the bulbs before provided.

Well the reason for doing so is quite obvious, in the fact that these types of bulbs are much more energy efficient. Unlike the incandescent bulbs you may have currently in your home were you to fit an LED light bulb you will over the coming years see the amount of electricity you use being reduced as these types of bulbs use only half the power conventional ones do.

Okay it may cost more to replace your current bulbs with the LED light bulb type, but this really should be weighed up against how much you can save on your electricity bills in the future.

If you do decide to install any kind of LED light bulb you need to make sure that you find the right one. But finding the right one can prove quite challenging especially if you haven't purchased such before. So below we offer some tips below that you may find of some use.

Tip 1 - Price

The cost to replace every light bulb in your home with the LED variety is going to prove expensive. So deciding which ones to use needs to be thought through very carefully. Over the last few years the price being charged for such bulbs has come down quite a bit and it is possible to buy ones for less that $10 each.

The problem of course with this type of LED light bulb is that they may not be made using the best quality materials. As are result of this they may not actually last as long as you would normally expect. It is far better therefore if you spend a little more on your purchases and choose to replace the bulbs over a longer period of time rather than all at once.

Choosing to replace your current bulbs with ones that cost between $15 and $20 should be considered. However if you can afford to then going for ones that cost up to $50 would be even better. Remember you get what you pay for.

Tip 2 - Light Type

Initially when the LED light bulb first appeared on the market most people were against installing them because the light they produced was too white and bright. However this isn't the situation today. Companies have invested a great deal of time and money into creating LED bulbs that are able to produce varying different colors of light. You can now of course go for LED bulbs that produce a cool white light as well as a much warmer yellow type of light that a conventional incandescent light bulb produces.

Tip 3 - Warranty

You will find when it comes to buying any kind of LED light bulb today most of them come with some kind of warranty. Some have a warranty of around 10 years, whilst others offer ones for much longer. So make sure that you choose one with a reasonable period of warranty attached.
