Why Do People Use LED Downlight Bulbs For Homes

Why are many people using LED downlight bulbs for homes?  You see, when people refer to LED lights, the first thing that springs to their mind is those small lights that come in different colours used to indicate settings on devices.

LED technologies are quickly improving and nowadays you can get the LED light bulbs and downlights easily. In fact, a LED downlight is capable of producing the same amount of illumination that a normal 50W halogen light would produce for just 10W.

They are also designed with safety features in mind running significantly cooler than halogen bulbs, containing no toxic materials (like incandescent bulbs contain mercury) and they have very little glass which can shatter and spread into small particles.

From the above you can actually gather there is simply no reason to not switch to LED Lights.  So, what prevents people from using LED downlights?

The main issue is that these type of lights are presently more costly in the beginning than conventional downlights or halogens. Most LED downlights start around $30 per unit where are incandescent bulbs can be just $2 at your local store.

Additionally a lot of people are unsure as to how to buy and install LED downlights for the homes as you know making changes are often scary and people would rather stick with what they are comfortable with.

While traditional incandescent lights are other options which may seem cheaper and LED's are the most expensive initially, but in long term it will pay off and save you much money.

You will be looking at about 3 to 4 years before the lights pay themselves back and also start saving you money however still from that point on you will be saving money for years.

Also consider because of the long lifespan of LED light systems, you will almost never have to worry about replacing them or getting a professional to do it so you can possibly save yourself some money there as well.

Also most LED light bulbs are retrofit and programmed to work with your existing electrical systems and even older ones. It is just a matter of making a simple replacement or a few additional auditions which can be done by yourself or by a professional.

It is highly recommended you buy LED downlight bulbs online as it is less expensive and also these websites often offer guides on how to install them easily.

What Are The Benefits Of LED Light

Nowadays LED light bulb are used for many lighting applications. The reason for their becoming so popular is their energy efficiency. In fact, they have already proved to be a better option to incandescent and fluorescent lamps, which we have been using for a long time.

An LED light can work upto about fifty thousand hours. Of course, its life depends under which conditions it works. Under ideal conditions, it should not be exposed to moisture and excessive cold or hot temperatures.

LED lamps are available in white, green, red, blue, white or amber colors. The color emitted by a diode is decided by the energy gap of the material used for making its p-n junction. The composition of a diode is a slice of N-type material, carrying a negative charge and another slice of P-type material, with a positive charge, having electrodes at either end.

The point where the two kinds of materials are joined forms a p-n junction. The energy gaps of different types of p and n materials are different and measured in terms of wavelengths, which results to having light in different colors.

When light is to be directed to a particular point, you can employ LED lights. Compared to traditional options of lighting, these lights prove much more fitted for this purpose.

Usual incandescent lamps are notoriously energy inefficient. Nearly ninety percent of their energy consumption gets wasted due to the heat produced by them. Conversely, LED lamps consume 75% less energy compared to incandescent lamps, and produce just 3-4 BTUs/ hour, while incandescent lamps produce 85 BTUs of heat.

The energy consumption of LEDs is just 2-10 watts. That is 1/3 to 1/30 of what is consumed by incandescent lamps or CFLs. The lifespan of an LED bulb is 35-50 times more than incandescent lamps and 2-5 times more of fluorescent lamps. As per the estimates of the U.S. Department of Energy, extensive use of LED lighting during the coming twenty years can help saving nearly $265 billion, amount enough for making forty additional power plants, thus reducing the demand of power for lighting by about 33 %.

A wider beam of light can be generated by bunching together a number of LED light bulbs. A process using low-priced silicon wafers in place of pricey sapphire-based technology has already been developed by the researchers of the Purdue University. These developments would help a lot in replacing the usual incandescent and even CFL bulbs.

Things You Should Know Before You Buy LED Light Bulbs

Even today most of us still prefer to use incandescent, fluorescent or halogen lighting throughout our homes. Yet the installation of LED light bulbs can prove more beneficial to us homeowners in many ways. As well as using a lot less power in comparison to other forms of lighting they also provide much better lighting.

However if you haven't considered investing in such lighting before we offer some information you may find useful.

LED light bulbs provide light by passing electrons through a semiconductor. Inside each of these bulbs is a digital chip that is able to convert small amounts of energy into light. The light emitted by such bulbs is very warm and inviting, yet if you were to actually come in to contact with them they would feel cool to the touch.

As already mentioned these forms of bulbs use far less energy compared to the conventional light bulbs you already have in your home. As a result of this they have a much longer life span. On average such light bulbs have a life span of around 10 years, whereas incandescent ones are only expected to last a year at the most.

When it comes to purchasing LED light bulbs for your home you will find that there are many different kinds available. However there are certain things you need to keep in mind when shopping for such items to ensure that you buy the right ones for your particular needs.

The things that you need to keep in mind when buying such light bulbs are as follows.

1. Lumens - Normally you would purchase your bulbs based on their wattage. However you should be now basing your purchase on the number of lumens as this tells you the exact amount of light they are able to emit. Ideally look for ones that are able that come with a lumen level of between 800 and 1,600.

2. Color - This is another very important factor you need to keep in mind when choosing LED bulbs for your home. You need to look at the bulbs CRI (color rendering index), as this will tell you how good the light source is.

Bulbs that come with a CRI of 100 are ones that create light that is close to that produced by the sun. However for indoors you should opt for LED light bulbs with a CRI of 80.

But don't just look at the bulbs CRI also take a look at its CCT (Correlated Color Temperature), which is measured in Kelvins. The best bulbs to select for indoors are ones that have a CCT of between 4,000 and 5,000K as these ones produce light that is very clear and white.

3. Type Of Lamp - As already mentioned above there are numerous types of LED light bulbs now available. For ceilings and lamps choose the A-19 variety, whereas for outdoor you should choose to invest in PAR38 LED light bulbs. However if you have any form of recessed lighting in your home then opt for PAR30 or PAR20 bulbs.

The Difference Between Led Lights And Fluorescent Lights

There is the development of two forms of light, which is the Light-emitting Diode or LED and the Compact Fluorescent Light or CFL, that is aimed on solving electricity shortage issues which the planet is facing nowadays. However, how do we know which one to buy? Read on to find out more about the lights.

While some may choose the LED lights over the CFL but there are others who would attest the other way around. In order to be able to judge what really is the effective type, you should know the mechanisms on how they are able to produce the much needed light. CFL or compact fluorescent lamp is made up of a filament which has to be burned to produce light. As the process of burning takes place, much energy is utilized. Actually, it consumes about a quarter of energy which is consumed by an incandescent light bulb. An incandescent bulb is a source of electric light which works through the process of incandescence which is heat-driven light emissions and so it consumes much energy too. It is also known that CFL has a shorter life span as compared to LED.

LED or light-emitting diode produces light just like CFL however it does not contain filament and it does not involve heating and so it basically does not consume too much energy. As compared with an incandescent bulb, the LED light tube is more efficient in producing light as this only consumes about 9% of energy compared to the light bulb. One good thing about LED lights is that it lasts longer compared to that of a CFL's capacity to produce light. Ai LED light bulbs are more effective compared to CFL. It is a bit more expensive however you can use it longer than CFL, so you do not need to change lights at frequent intervals. There are a few suppliers which make poor quality LED and you must be aware of such as they do not work properly and they are more of a disadvantage than an advantage.

Should You Use LED Industrial Lighting In Your Office?

Industrial lights are a key component in any working place. This information will give you an overview of the different types that are available, a little information especially on how they operate and ways is which they could be used.

There are many different applications for lighting in the industrial world. Spray paint booths, and damp environments need special lighting that is designed for those areas. Some industrial lighting is explosion proof, and marine lighting is also an application that is needed.

The three main types of lights that are made for industry are LED lights, halogen, and tubular fluorescent. We can look at each one and get a bit of knowledge about how they work.

Light emitting diode, or LED industrial lights come on a variety of colors. Some are red, green or yellow. These lights are almost indestructible and they use a minimal amount of electricity to run. They contain positive and negative diodes which allow the current inside to flow from positive to negative, creating light. These LED light bulbs give off little heat and are very cost efficient to run but the lighting fixtures themselves are a bit more costly than other types of lighting.

Halogen is another type of light that is used in industrial places. They are also a cost saver. They give off a lot of light for the little amount of electricity that they use. The bulbs operate on a filament that is inside of them, surrounded by and inert gas (or halogen). The gas keeps the filament from burning out when it heats up to create light.

Fluorescent tubular lighting is the one we are most familiar with. Long cylindrical tubes that are filled with mercury vapor and a phosphor, are charged with electricity, which in turn, creates light. They also need a ballast for controlling the electricity that runs through them. Recently, manufacturers have been making smaller versions of the lights we once knew, keeping up with the needs of a progressing workplace.

Hand held devices are also being employed for use-age in small spaces. These can be used where you need your lighting to be portable such as in engine repair, inspecting electrical panels or aircraft maintenance.

In some instances you may need magnification along with you industrial lighting. This is also an option. A magnifying glass is surrounded by a light, which is usually fluorescent. The light and the magnifying glass are attached to an arm that can be positioned as you need it.

Very often lens protection is needed in industrial lighting applications. Dust from grain bins, feed mills, and sawmills is highly explosive. These lens protectors keep the lights from breaking and causing explosions in the dust around them. Some metal operations such as aluminum grinding or sanding also need this protection.

We have so far talked about AC generated industrial lighting but don't forget about DC versions that all moving vehicles must carry in a workplace situation. Cranes, tow motors, and hand lift trucks all need to be equipped with yellow or amber revolving lights, making them highly visible as they move around. These are examples of DC industrial lighting.

LED Bulbs - The 5 Reasons For Installing LED Light Bulbs

As we become more conscious about the effect that the use of electricity is having on our planet. So the more aware we are becoming of looking for ways to reduce our use. As a result of this the sale of LED light bulbs has increased substantially in the last few years.

Today it isn't just companies who are choosing to install such lighting but many homeowners as well.

So what are the reasons for so many us choosing to spend money on installing LED lighting bulbs rather than sticking with the incandescent and fluorescent ones?

In this article we look more closely at the features of LED bulbs and which will explain to you why such lights are proving so popular today.

1 - Luminous Flux

At the present time LED lights have the ability to produce a luminous flux of between 1 and 120 lumens. In turn they need only to use power of between 50-100mW (MiliWatts) and 5W (Watts) to create the light they produce.

2 - Color and Color Temperature

Most of the LED bulbs you see today emit a very neutral white light which many of us see as being cold. However research is being carried out and in the future the lights will be able to produce a much warmer light that looks very similar to that which a traditional tungsten or halogen bulb produces.

3 - Life Span

As these lights use less energy to create the light they don't get as hot as conventional light bulbs do and this in turn means that they last considerably longer. If you are willing to purchase good quality LED bulbs you will find that they will provide light for between 30 and 50,000 hours. Whereas you will often expect a conventional light bulb needing to be replaced between 5 and 10,000 hours.

4 - Light Distribution

How intense the light distributed by such bulbs is will depend on the housing used and what sort of carrier or reflector has been used to place the semiconductor on. Certainly the better quality these components then the more intense the light distributed will be. On average the amount of light emitted can vary dramatically and the angle at which it is emitted varies also. In some bulbs the angle is just 15 degrees whilst in others it can be as much as 160 degrees.

5 - Energy Efficiency

These are considered to be among the most efficient form of lighting you can get today. At present most of these bulbs are able to emit around 30 lm/w of white light. However there are a few now that have the capability of emitting 50 lm/w and hopefully at some point in the future some will be able to emit 100 lm/w. So it won't be very long before these types of bulbs have the ability to emit the quality of light that traditional light sources currently provide.

As a result of all these features it will not be very long before you seen LED bulbs replacing the much more inefficient forms of lighting we use currently.

What To Consider Before Buying LED Light

When it comes to deciding which type of LED light to buy for your home it can prove somewhat challenging as there is such a wide selection to choose from today. So it is a good idea if you spend some time learning more about what is available. The best place of course to do this kind of research will be online.

There are plenty of places offering advice and information on these items so helping to ensure that you make a more informed decision as to which form of LED light you should be buying.

However as you do look into these lights there are certain things that you need to be taking into consideration. In this article we take a look at just what some of these things are and of course which we hope will help you to purchase the right kinds of LED lights for your home.

Consideration 1 - It is important that when deciding what size lights to buy you choose ones that will produce enough light to illuminate the room in which they are being installed. The best way to determine what size you need is to look at the number of watts the lights use. So of course the higher the wattage then the much brighter the light emitted from the bulbs used in the lights will be.

Consideration 2 - Another thing that you need to be taking into consideration when it comes to buying these forms of lights is the type of color they emit. You will find that this will have an effect on the brightness of the light that they are emitting. Of course you will need to make sure that you choose lights that are suitable for the way in which they are going to be used. If you are installing such lighting in say your kitchen then the color must be much brighter than that you would be using in say your living room, bedroom or bathroom.

What you will find today is that the range of colors for LED lights is almost endless as the colors can be created using RGB techniques. Today however there is generally two to three shades of white light that these can emit commonly referred to as cold, warm or natural white. The first shade is the one that emits the brightest light that will have a slight bluish tinge to it. The second type is the kind where the light emitted has a more yellowish tinge to it and feels very similar to that of the sun. Whilst the final type is the one that is a combination of the two already discussed.

Consideration 3 - One other thing of course that will affect what kind of LED light you buy is how much you can afford to spend. Again the more you spend the better quality lighting you will have which means the type of light they emit will be far better. However if you want to save money on the cost of your purchase it is worth considering purchasing what you want online.

LED Light Bulbs - The Real Energy And Money Saver For Home Lighting

When you are about to renovate or move into a new home, the lighting system of the home is something that you should pay a lot of attention to. For one, this is due to the fact that lighting usually takes up almost 25% of your overall electricity bill. It is also important to ensure that your lighting system is designed well to make sure that your home is well-illuminated, and to make sure that the lighting system helps to make your home better in terms of beauty and aesthetics.

Thus rather than considering conventional light bulbs to light up your home, why not opt for LED Light Bulbs instead? LEDs are not only energy-efficient, they are also highly useful if you are looking to save money in terms of electricity bills. And they undoubtedly look better than traditional light bulbs.

Let us now look at some of the more important reasons of why home LED lighting is becoming increasing popular recently:

1) LED lights are exceptionally efficient, and display an efficiency rate of almost 80%. They do not generate much heat, thus it does not take electricity to heat up the filament like how it works in conventional lights, and only a small fraction of the energy used to heat up filaments is used to light up LEDs. Undoubtedly the best lighting technology out there currently in terms of energy efficiency.

2) Longer life spans can be expected when you invest in these lights. When used well, LEDs can be utilized without any complication for more than one hundred thousand hours, translating to more than eleven years of continuous use without much complication. Most of the usual bulbs that are being used today need to be changed in less than a quarter of that duration, and when you compare this to LED lights, you can clearly see the savings that you are about to reap in terms of maintenance and replacement bulbs.

3) Save more electricity with LEDs, as you would reap the benefits of the efficiency levels of these lights immediately. When you consider that almost a quarter of your monthly electricity bill goes to lighting, you can save quite a lot if you ask me!

4) LED lights are also considerably safer, as there are no dangerous substances to worry about such as mercury (as found in CFL lights) or other hazardous materials. They also do not release or emit any UV rays that are hazardous to health as opposed to conventional lights such as halogen bulbs and CFLs that do.

5) LEDs are more environmentally-friendly, as they utilize less electricity to run, and are more energy-efficient. When you use these lights, you require less electricity to power your lights as they convert electricity to light energy more effectively, and thus you help the environment by utilizing less energy. At the same time, less heat energy is generated, which means that you are assisting in the efforts against global warming as well.

LED lights would without doubt take over the world of lighting in the near future, thus it is advisable that you embrace the change now and reap the benefits immediately!

Commercial LED Lighting: Some Great Benefits Of Using It In Your House And Business

The ability for manufacturers of commercial LED lighting to create truly white light continues to evolve due to improvements in the technology used. Today these types of lights feature much higher lumens per watt efficiencies compared to the prototypes they offered us initially.

As a result this has now resulted in a number of different forms of architectural and site lighting applications being made available, that was once only available through HID commercial lighting fixtures.

So what are the benefits to a company choosing to install commercial LED lighting today, rather than to stick with what they have currently. In this article we take a look at just some of these benefits. Plus we also take a look at what some of the effects traditional lighting you see in stores and offices today.

Benefit 1 - Compared to traditional lighting for offices and stores you will find installation of LED lighting will help to reduce the amount of energy the property uses. By reducing the amount of electricity you use to power lights in an office or store means that far less fossil fuels or oil needs to be burnt in order for electricity to be created. So there will be less of the by products produced when the fuels are being burnt that not only damage the environment but also can be harmful to us and other creatures.

Benefit 2 - You will find that commercial LED lighting lasts considerably longer than conventional lighting and so far less waste is being sent to those landfill sites. On average good quality LED lights will last 6.2 times as long as fluorescent lighting. This is because they use far less power to provide the energy they need but still emit a great deal more white light.

Benefit 3 - As these lights need far less energy to power them of course this means that a business can see quite a drastic reduction in how much they spend on electricity each year. Typically around 35 to 50% of all the electricity used in businesses today will be used to help power the lights. But of course as LED lights use a fraction of the electricity so this means that the costs will be quite a lot less.

Now let us take a look at what would occur if you chose to stick with your fluorescent lights.

1. Every year around 1 billion fluorescent lights will be disposed of around the world that contains mercury in them. This means that every year 50,000lbs of mercury is being able disposed of and it only takes 1 CFL (4mg) of mercury to be able to poison 2,000 liters of water. In fact most of the mercury that you find in your food today is as a result of industrial pollution.

2. Should you choose to remain using fluorescent light fixtures in your business premises then you are not helping to reduce the release of green house gasses into the world. Plus by not installing commercial
LED lighting will result in you still helping to release 5,700lbs of mercury into the air each year.

Led light bulbs are used by individuals in one form or the other; either as Christmas lights, in torches or in garden lighting. The LED technology, which is the short form for light emitting diode, was invented in the 1920s by a Russian scientist, Oleg Vladimirovich Losev, but was not given much importance during the next 30 years. It was only after the recommendation of the American scientists that the lights came into use for consumer-based electronics in 1950s. Gradually, with the development of science and technology, the white Led home lights were developed, which have been used for lighting homes.

The most common colours used in Led light bulbs are yellow, white, blue and red. They come with several benefits. They are long lasting and are environment friendly. They are much more efficient than the regular incandescent light bulbs and have 10 times longer life. Moreover, they consume 80% less energy than the regular bulbs. They are inexpensive to operate though they may cost a little too much. The Led home lights are made of white LED which exhibit light with Sun like intensity and thus keeps your house bright and attractive. This also ensures good sleep, improved mood and boosts up body energy levels.

The Led home lights are gaining recognition not just as a fad or trend, but for justifiable reasons too. It is believed to cure people of many ailments and disorders. They are also said to possess high economic value. They may be more expensive than the fluorescent or incandescent bulbs, but you will soon realize that that all the return on investment justifies the cost of the Led light bulbs. The average life of a Led light bulb is about 25000 to 50000 hours, i.e., a life between 5.7 years and 22.8 years if the light is used for 12 hours everyday.

The Led light bulbs are obtainable with the standard size base which can be used in any of the home fixtures. The bulbs do not heat up because they do not convert the heat into light. The absence of hair-thin filaments within prevents them from breakage unlike other regular light bulbs. They are used in wireless mouse, TV remotes and many scanners. By making use of Led home lights, you prevent the emission of carbon dioxide, nuclear and sulphur oxide into the atmosphere. Even the use of one Led bulb could be of great help to the environment for reducing the impact of global warming.

Led light bulbs are soon entering into many niche markets. There are also available in the form of flashlights which consume less battery energy, saving sufficient amount to be used the next time there is a power crisis. Light Bulbs That Emit Happiness

LED refers to Light Emitting Diode and is a very commonly used term in lighting and decoration. It is basically a semi-conductor lighting device that is mainly used as an indicator lamp and also for lighting purposes.

LED light bulbs are extensively used in homes, offices, commercial buildings and other establishments as an important aspect of lighting. Earlier, LED light bulbs mainly comprised low intensity bulbs but now these are available in visible, ultraviolet and infrared wavelengths, which ensure excellent brightness.

LED light bulbs find a diverse range of applications in different industries, mainly electric and electronics industries. These bulbs are characterized by their features like perfect light emission, ample brightness, durability and compact size. In fact, the compact size of the LED light bulbs has allowed the development of new text and video displays and sensors. LED bulbs are applicable as replacements for traditional light sources in aviation lighting, automotive lighting (particularly indicators) and in traffic signals. Such diverse use of these bulbs, along with cost effectiveness and other features, make these bulbs immensely popular in the market.

LED light bulbs are advantageous over other traditional sources of incandescent lights. These bulbs consume less electricity and remain functional for a longer time period. Some of the other advantages of these bulbs include improved robustness, smaller size, faster switching and greater reliability. However, these bulbs require more precise current and heat management than other sources of lighting. More advanced usage of LED bulbs includes use in communication technology, owing to the excellent switching rate. Infrared variations of LED bulbs are also used in the remote control units of several consumer products like television sets, DVD players and other domestic appliances. LED Light Versus Incandescent Light: Why You Should Consider Using LED Light Bulbs Instead Of Incandescent Light Bulbs?

LED light, or light-emitting diode, is said to be the future of household lighting. More and more consumers are starting to use LED light bulbs instead of the traditional incandescent light bulbs or any other type of lighting options. While incandescent bulbs make use of filament to produce light, LED bulbs make use of photons, which are created by the movements of the electrons inside a semiconductor material.

There are many reasons why people are choosing LED lighting over other types of household lighting options, particularly the incandescent light bulbs. When it comes to energy efficiency and bulb life, LED lights are definitely better than the incandescent bulbs.

LEDs basically consume one-fifth energy and last 30 times longer than the traditional lighting bulbs. While an incandescent bulb produce approximately 98% of energy as heat, a LED bulb can burn very cool. Also, a LED light is known to have a long lifespan, generally lasting from 50,000 to 100,000 hours of use; such a huge difference from an incandescent bulb which can last for only about 1,000 hours.

While energy efficiency and long lifespan are the two main benefits you can get from a LED light bulb, here are some other reasons why you should choose LED light bulbs over incandescent bulbs.

Since LEDs consume little energy, they produce very little amount of heat; thus, they reduce the risk of fire or injury.

Compared to the fragile glass bulbs that incandescent lights are built with, LED units are very sturdy and won't easily break if they are accidentally jostled or dropped.

LEDs are not built with fragile filament or tube and are known to be very much resistant to cold, heat and shock.

LED light bulbs are very cool to the touch. No need to worry about burning or turning the bulb off first and waiting for at least 30 minutes before replacing it with a new one.

Unlike other lighting options such as the fluorescent bulbs, LEDs don't contain a harmful element called mercury.

LED lights are available in a wide variety of colored lighting options from anywhere on the light spectrum.

LEDs are both environment-friendly and user-friendly. They don't emit infrared lighting or ultraviolet radiation that can harm people or the environment.

The LED light is perfect for spotlighting. The light molecules can be easily concentrated to one direction without losing much energy.

They are compatible with most systems and can be easily installed even by new users.

There are definitely a lot more benefits you can get from using LED lighting at home. The only downside that you would have to deal with is the price. Compared to the incandescent bulbs, or even fluorescent bulbs, LEDs are a bit expensive.

For instance, it'll cost you about $40 if you plan to replace your 25-watt incandescent bulb with a LED light bulb. The high cost, however, is nothing compared to the huge reduction on energy usage that you will realize as soon as you start using LED lighting for your home.

Energy costs are continuously rising and more and more consumers are struggling to pay their monthly utility bills. If you're one of them and you're constantly looking for alternative methods to save energy, you can start by using the revolutionary, energy-saving household lighting product called LED light.

This type of household lighting may be quite expensive compared to some other household lighting options, but the price is definitely worth it. The huge savings on energy that it guarantees, as well as its long lifespan, is enough to say that LED light bulbs are currently among the best options if you're looking for an energy-efficient household lighting.

Creating A Brighter Home With LED Lighting

Want state of the art LED lighting for your residence? If so then this piece of writing will facilitate to let you know you regarding the numerous advantages to be attained from fixing high power LED lights in your residence. In addition to being very powerful these may help to put aside money on your lighting costs and even assists to conserve the nature.

With the skyrocketing energy costs, people are constantly looking for ways to limit energy consumption. Today, one of the most intelligent and efficient forms of commercial and residential lighting available is LED lighting.

There are various advantages that come with such lighting, contributing to its increasing popularity. More to its durable bulbs that produce far brighter light, it is environment-friendly and efficient. These are among the reasons why it now illuminates many homes, and major streets, landmarks and buildings.

What is a LED Lighting?

LED, which means Light Emitting Diode, is a device that converts electricity into light. They have actually been existing since the 1960. Unlike the conventional bulbs, LED lights do not need a filament to generate light. The diodes are the LED lighting's sources of power. The diodes have a diameter of about 1/4 inch, and each only consumes about ten milliamps of electricity to generate light at about a tenth of a watt. Since LED are small in size, they are grouped together for higher intensity light requirements. They operate and generate white light using the powe generated by the motion of electrons.

Today, LED lighting is available in a number of efficiencies. For residential purposes, LED lights that are about 20 lumens/watt would suffice. LED lights that are as much as 160 watt are also now being developed.

LED lighting bulbs have become more and more popular in the lighting industry for various reasons, including the following:

Energy Saver Light Bulbs

While the energy costs are constantly increasing, it is no wonder why more and more people are turning to LED lighting. This light solution does not require as much amount of energy that the traditional bulbs require to produce light.

LED light bulbs produce light in a process called electroluminescence. This method eliminates or reduces the amount of energy that traditional bulbs waste when producing light. Moreover, since LED light's structure is less than the conventional bulbs, it does not require the same amount of wattage that conventional bulbs require to generate the same amount of illumination. This translates to a significant decrease in energy consumption and electric bills.

Durability or Longer Lifespan

Compared to other lighting sources, LED light bulbs generally have a longer lifespan. Depending current settings, it can last up to 100,000 hours more than other lighting alternatives. This is because this lighting solution usually does not have burning filaments, shortening wicks, or consumable vapors.

Moreover, since LED light bulbs do not have any moving parts, LED bulbs are more resistant to vibrations and shocks. They are also generally tougher than other bulbs, making it the most durable source of light.

Faster Switching

While incandescent and fluorescent light bulbs generate light through superheating, LED lighting does not. It generates light as soon as electricity is transmitted to the chip. This makes switching on and off of LED lights faster than other lighting alternatives. In a matter of less than a second, it can generate full brightness.

Environment-Friendly and Safe

Best of all, unlike fluorescent lamps, it does not contain Mercury vapor that is toxic not only to humans but to other life forms as well. This makes LED lighting a lot safer than fluorescent bulbs.
